The Pretoria Symphony Orchestra presents their latest production, Faust – the story of a man who sells his soul for worldly gain.
The opera, in five acts composed by Charles Gounod around 1856, features the aging and disillusioned scholar, Faust, a tragic figure originally created by the German playwright, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
The vocal writing includes many well-known arias such as Marguerite’s jewel song and Valentin’s famous aria, ‘Avant de quitter ces lieux’. Faust is set to offer audiences an audio-visual spectacle which includes a line-up of acclaimed operatic soloists, rich symphonic orchestral accompaniment, opera chorus and corps de ballet. Directed by Pierre du Toit.
