Kabi Thulo kickstarts this year’s performances at the Breytenbach Theatre with his experimental work, Mohahlauli/Bahahlauli (Traveller/Travellers).
Thulo is a lecturer at the Tshwane University of Technology’s Department of Drama and Film (Drama). His work is a performance-making process based on his research project that examines the process of directing practice within a particular context of devising performance from a South African perspective.
Mohahlauli, is consciously driven by the creative impulse of exploring a way in which (academic-) artistic research, which is process oriented and not product oriented, that can possibly be publicly shared. Furthermore, Bahahlauli is a collaborative artistic toyi-toyi attempting to debunk South Africa’s current capitalist practice of (theatre) arts product(ion) consumption through (re)valuing process and ‘frank talk’.
