Rob van VuurenRob van Vuuren has established himself as one of the most prolific players in the South African entertainment scene. He has worked as an actor, writer, director, dancer and producer across various genres and in different media.

His work in television (as co-host of Crazy Games, SA’s Got Talent and The Most Amazing Show as well as being the record breaking winner of Strictly Come Dancing) and film (Straight Outta Benoni, Footskating 101 and Leon Schuster’s Shucks Tshabalala and most recently as the lead in zany comedy Copposites) has made him a household name in South Africa.

Rob van Vuuren became a comedian by mistake while he was trying to be an actor.

Recognition: He received Fleur Du Cap and Vita nominations for Best Supporting Actor for his work in The Beauty Queen of Leenane and Birdy respectively.

He has twice been named in the Mail and Guardians 200 young South Africans list and in 2011 won the inaugural Comics Choice Breakthrough Act Award for his work as a stand-up comedian. He also has two Standard Bank Ovation Awards for comedy (Rob van Vuuren – Live and Pants on Fire) to his name.

Some of his other memorable work as an actor include; Puck and Bottom in separate and highly successful productions of A Midsummer Nights Dream, Sebastian inTwelfth Night, Hond/Aljosja in Breyten Breytenbach’s Toneelstuk, Guildenstern inRosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead and Dromio of Syracuse in A Comedy of Errors.

Rob has also developed a loyal following in the theatre through original work such as Mung, Tangkupa, Bangalore Torpedo, Brother Number, Electric Juju, The Most Amazing Show (which toured nationally and internationally and received a cult like status in South Africa and enjoyed two highly succesful and award winning seasons on national television). His most recent theatre project is a collaborative adaptation of The 3 Little Pigs (with James Cairns, Albert Pretorius and Tara Notcutt) as a dark political thriller –comedy which tours nationally and to Perth, New York, Amsterdam, Dublin and London in 2013.

Rob will be appearing on the big screen again shortly in local productions; Spud 2, Jimmy in Pienk and Die Laaste Tango as well as the massive international biopic of Nelson Mandela’s life The Long Walk to Freedom.
