As one of the oldest gold mines in the province, the Kromdraai Gold Mine is a great attraction for visitors to learn more about traditional mining methods, the history of this industry and its contribution to local economy and culture. Gold was first discovered at Kromdraai in 1881, five years before the gold rush, and it was in 1885 that the farm was proclaimed a mine.
