The Of Soul and Joy photography project presents uHambo, a group show featuring the work of nine photographers in Newtown from 21 January to 24 February.
Taking place at the Umhlabathi Gallery, this exhibition features work from Of Soul and Joy photographers (both present and alumni). It features pieces that converse with each other about each creator’s photographic journeys, in the hope of opening a space for dialogue.
The photographers showcasing their work are Sibusiso Bheka, Thembikosi Hlatshwayo, Litha Kanda, Vuyo Mabheka, Tshepiso Mazibuko, Sikelela Mdilikwane, Lunathi Mngxuma, Fuwe Molete and Siphiwe Vilikazi. The exhibition forms part of the organisation’s 10-year anniversary celebrations.
Of Soul and Joy is a social and artistic initiative created by Rubis Mécénat and Easigas (Rubis Group’s South African subsidiary) in Thokoza, southeast Johannesburg, that aims to teach photography skills to the township’s vulnerable youth.
