Eddie Griffin – Headlining Hilarity

Eddie Griffin is a multifaceted American comedian and actor, known for his electrifying stage presence and unique style. With an illustrious career spanning stand-up specials and over 50 film appearances, Griffin’s participation is a testament to the festival’s dedication to quality.

A Blend of Familiar Faces and Fresh Talent

The Laugh Africa Comedy Festival goes much further than the big names. Over 50 comedians will perform in three languages (English, vernacular, and Afrikaans). Guests will be treated to local favourites including Tumi Morake, Alfred Adriaan, Mashabela, Chris Mapane, Mel Jones, Rob van Vuuren, Siv Ngesi, and more. For the first time in South Africa, social media comedy sensations will join the traditional stand-up acts, adding a modern twist.

A Roast to Remember

In addition to the chuckle-inducing acts, the festival will host a comedy roast of Minnie Dlamini. She’ll be at the receiving end of some wicked but ultimately good-natured banter! At the Roast Master helm are comedy heavyweights Tumi Morake and Jason Goliath – both will ensure that the jests and jabs hit nowhere else but below the belt. The selected panellists are Trevor Gumbi, Shahan Ramkissoon, Celeste Ntuli, Lasizwe, Penny Lebyane, Da L.E.S, Siv Ngesi and Robert Marawa.

A Celebration of Resilience Through Humour

The festival has a bigger purpose than entertainment: to provide joy and relief in unpredictable times. As such, the tagline for Laugh Africa is ‘And Still We Laugh’. Comedy is Africa’s secret weapon – a tool for celebration, resilience, and unity.

Stuart Taylor, comedy veteran and the festival’s Creative Director, adds, ‘We’re redefining comedy festivals in South Africa. This isn’t just a show; it’s a three-day journey through laughter, from local talents to international acts. There’s something for everyone!’

Showmax, as the official streaming partner, is set to capture the festival’s magic with a 13-part comedy stand-up series and a 90-minute roast, on its powerful new tech platform.

  1. I did chauffeur local and international comedians during the 4 years of Johannesburg International Comedy Festival around Johannesburg.

My experience of international standard because it’s not the comedians but local and international musicians, actors, footballers and high profile personalities.
