The brainchild of of father-daughter duo Wehrner and Daniela Gutstadt, Culinary Table in Lanseria holds a quiet charm as one of best conscious restaurants in Johannesburg by diners and critics alike. 

Here the focus is not on overly fussy and Instagrammable plating, but instead shining a spotlight on seasonal and sustainable ingredients sourced locally. The menu is crafted with produce harvested right from the restaurant’s food garden or from small-scale farmers in the area.

The resident chef at Culinary Table, Daniela Gutstadt, designs the menu with new dishes every week to really position seasonal fare.

This fusion restaurant pays homage to contemporary techniques and flavours while using local South African produce. Diners here are reminded of a hearty home-cooked meal with a modern touch, complete with generous servings and a cosy, relaxed atmosphere. Bookings are highly recommended for this popular spot.

After high school, Daniela completed an undergraduate degree in Marketing, Business French and Italian Literature and Language at The University of Cape Town. She then moved to New York City, where she enrolled at the International Culinary Centre for a Grande Diplome in Classic Culinary Arts, as well as Professional Bread Making and Wine Service.

The Food Market at Culinary Table

Culinary Table is also home to a thriving concept Food Market that comprises a specialist deli, butchery, bakery and garden produce offerings. The team’s passion for food started with produce that was sourced and used only in the restaurant and later expanded with a curated selection of goods for the food market. 

Everything you find in the butchery, bakery and veg section is prepared from scratch, grown or harvested from the venue’s urban farm. Loyal patrons can join the Foodie Rewards programme which offers free cappuccinos on points and discounts on every purchase. 

Shop free roaming and ethically sourced butchery meats from nose-to-tail, seasonal fresh veg, herbs and fruits harvested from the garden, and freshly baked sourdough bread, rolls and croissants for our bakery daily from around 9am.

At the deli, you can browse a massive collection of rare and unique Thai, Japanese, Indian and South African ingredients. The friendly in-store team can also source whichever ingredient you may need.

The frozen section offers ready-to-eat and frozen meals such as lasagne, curry, bakes and side dishes which are perfect for home baking.
