Cederberg Wilderness Area

The Cederberg Wilderness Area is one of the most undisturbed parts of South Africa. The Cedar trees date back to the last ice age 300-255 million years ago when the landscape was much colder and they are now under tremendous pressure due to climate change.

Hiking is the activity of choice - from a variety of day hikes to longer 'overnighters'. There are three blocks of about 24 000 hectares each and numbers are limited to 50 people per block per day. Groups are limited to a minimum of three and a maximum of 12 people per day and caters to the more independent hiker. Huts along hiking trails are shelters only during bad weather spells as they have no beds. Accommodation and campsites are available at Algeria and Kliphuis. 4x4 enthusiasts can explore Routes around Citrusdal on mountain farms.
