Heritage Day Shakedown

A special performance by the sensational Pebble Shakers band, serving up a rare and truly unique collection of songs by South African artists of the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. An array of swinging DJs follow up the band to keep you moving all night long.

Cape Town Swing is a community organisation that nurtures a regional appreciation for the music, dance styling, and history of jazz from the Swing Era. As part of the global swing dance community, they aim to facilitate a passion for swing in South Africa by organising classes, workshops, parties and social events, and connecting with South African swing traditions.

The Pebble Shakers is a Cape Town-based group of jazz musicians specialising in swing-era tunes. To celebrate the history of jazz in South Africa, the band plays a selection of swinging South African tunes from the 1930s-50s through the Echoes of Sophiatown music revival
project.

The line-up includes Sibusiso Matsimela on Bass, Lilavan Gangen on Drums, John Bartman on Guitar,
Angelo Danster on Trumpet, Matt Willis on Trombone, Brathew Van Schalkwyk on Keys, Thandeka Dladla on Vocalsand Craig Smith on Sound.
