NIROX presents the opening of artist-in-residence Joseph Awuah-Darko's solo exhibition Soft Landing at NIROX Sculpture Park.
The exhibition is split between the Covered Space and Residency Workshop. It includes new sculptural, photographic, and tapestry works, employing a variety of mediums to explore the place of vulnerability and intimacy within everyday and ceremonial rituals.
Speaking about the use of cable ties, for example, Joseph notes: "The poetry of that mechanism is that once you squeeze it, you can’t undo it. There’s a permanency to it. That was quite cathartic. In a way it ties to another motif in my practice: this exploration of identity and how we are bound by certain social structures, or our perception of ourselves. By words. By thoughts and other isms.”
