Paul Roos Gymnasium is a school that boasts impressive annual cultural offerings where students enjoy the opportunity to hone their skills on stage. The popular PRG Music Festival is an example of one of their cultural events. Apart from regular music concerts, the Paul Roos music department has performed well-known musicals, the most recent of which was “The Little Shop of Horrors”.
This year, Paul Roos Gymnasium is looking forward to their collaboration with the University of Stellenbosch’s Drama Department.
For the first time in the history of Paul Roos and SU Drama, these secondary and tertiary institutions embark on a project together. It is the first large-scale musical to be performed at the newly upgraded Adam Small Theatre. The collaboration makes it possible for Paul Roos learners to share the stage with drama students, to be directed by a professional actor, director and producer (under the watchful eyes of professional technicians). Paul Roos’ creatives are especially looking forward to performing in a professional auditorium.
Theatre lovers can look forward to their performance of The Addams Family. In this version of the musical, Wednesday falls in love with a young man from a respected Ohio family. He insists on visiting the Addams family. Gomez Addams (Wednesday’s father) must do something he’s never done before – he must keep a secret, and consequently withhold the truth from his beloved wife, Morticia. The evening unravels as these two families meet for dinner.
Students have the opportunity to dress-up in true Addams Family style on designated evenings. Best-dressed audience members stand the chance to win theatre tickets for upcoming productions at the Adam Small Theatre. High schools are also invited to attend.
