April Highlights in Joburg


Happy Easter, Joburgers! We’ve got the low-down on what’s happening in the city… after you’ve filled up on chocolates and hot-cross buns, of course. Here are 10 of our favourite events taking place in Joburg and surrounds this month.

Autumn Garden Show


Wander around an exclusive herb garden, a place filled with plants arranged in spirals, formal beds with statues and fountains, roses in rounds and flowering gems lining the pathways. Guests can also enjoy a cup of tea or a botanical gin cocktail on the deck, stop for lunch, or take a stroll along the avenues to shop for plants and all things gardening.

The Jozi Youth Dance Company presents their fourth annual production. Translated from French, Domaine, meaning “realms”, takes the audience on a journey through different worlds, stepping seamlessly from one existence to the next.

Grand White


The popular Grand White event returns to Johannesburg for another year. Spend an afternoon and evening together with friends and family at a secret location in a city. Guests are required to be dressed in white with a touch of green. There is a variety of food, live music, speeches and entertainment.

Kamers Joburg


South Africa’s premier celebration of handmade, proudly local products. The show features over a 150 makers selling everything from hand-carved wooden bow ties and hand-turned wine-barrel furniture to hand-crafted porcelain jewellery and hand-spun scarves, as well as fashion, food and music.

Bottomless Coffee Band


The husband and wife folk duo perform live with tracks from their latest album. The pair present a multi-instrumental act, and have toured extensively throughout South Africa, Europe and the UK.

Lusito Land Festival


Lusito Land Festival celebrates Portuguese tradition and culture as well as the many cultures that make up Johannesburg and Gauteng. Known as one of the biggest family festivals, it offers traditional food, live music, fair rides and plenty of entertainment.

The classic musical returns to the stage and rekindles the life and vibrancy of old-style Sophiatown. A lively and memorable musical, Sophiatown returns with a new, young cast under the experienced eye of director Malcolm Purkey, bringing to life the legendary black cultural hub with all its politics, jazz and blues.

Black Chronicles IV


Curated by Renée Mussai, this exhibition centres on the visual presence of black figures in Victorian Britain. Through the prism of studio photography, Black Chronicles IV explores politics of subjectivity, representation and agency, and continues Autograph ABP’s critical mission of annotating the cultural histories of photography by addressing its ‘missing chapters’.

Joburg Ballet


Stars of the Joburg Ballet, supported by the full company, bring this tale of fatal obsession under the Spanish sun to life. Set to Bizet’s famous music.

Discworld Day


Discworld Day celebrates the comic fantasy book series by Terry Pratchett. Step into the fictional Discworld with themed food, all day movie screenings, craft beer and market stalls. Fans can also participate in the dress up contest, quizzes and treasure hunts.
