For nine weeks, the Market Theatre Foundation is live streaming Ditshomo – nine productions over nine weeks across all its social media platforms.
Ditshomo story time season sees award winning playwrights and choreographer’s premier their twenty-minute productions to create a theatrical experience for viewers at home.
The online theatre campaign started with artists recording monologues from their homes, delivered by some of South Africa’s finest actors. The initiative was based on celebrating some of the rich works that the Market has produced.
James Ngcobo, Artistic Director of the Market Theatre Foundation, says of the season: “We are completely committed to the idea that sees us programming and staying in touch with our patrons and at the same time celebrating those who have always gifted us with stories to tell. It also presents an opportunity for our work to be accessible to global audiences. We will be releasing a new production every week from 18th of June for the next nine weeks”.
This is a time for audiences to throw away their theatre etiquette book – they can sing while watching, make a cup of coffee, eat a favourite snack and make it a family experience.
All plays part of the storytelling season can be streamed via the Market Theatre social media.
