The Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra brings you the World Symphony Series 2019 Summer Season, hosted at the Linder Auditorium. Their first set of concerts features renowned conductor Victor Yampolsky with soloist Alexander Gilman.
Victor Yampolsky is a Russian-born conductor who currently directs orchestras at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music, a position he has held since 1984. He has conducted over 80 professional and student orchestras throughout the world and has recorded for Pyramid and Kiwi-Pacific records.
The concert’s soloist, Alexander Gilman, is an award-winning violinist who has performed in some of the biggest halls – like Berlin Philharmonic and Cologne Philharmonic – and been a guest of major international festivals.
The programme includes Antonin Dvorak’s Carnival Overture, Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s Concerto for Violin in D major and Peter Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.5 in e minor.
