This annual music and performing arts festival was described by CNN in 2019 as one of the “7 African music festivals you really have to see”. It is an internationally acclaimed festival that takes place in the scenic farmlands of the Malkerns Valley in Swaziland.
MTN Bushfire celebrates creative expression whilst promoting social responsibility, stimulating the economy and drawing talent and tourists from across Africa and around the world. Each year more than 20 000 people of all ages go to this three day event. It is renowned for its eclectic and multi-dimensional programme that is rooted in world music and includes a compelling line-up of theatre, poetry, dance, art exhibits & installations, story-telling, puppetry, film, and themed workshops.
At the festival there is also a handcraft market, family-friendly performances & a Kid Zone as well as the recently introduced interactive art and dialogue space, The Barn.
Profits of the festival go to local charities.
Festival-goers have a wide variety of options to choose from in terms of accommodation during the festival. There is on-site camping and glamping as well as B&Bs and hotels within 30km of the festival. The MTN Bushfire Campsite is open from 11am on Thursday for those with confirmed booking. Campers are allowed on to the festival grounds from Thursday, 11am until midnight, arrivals outside of this time will not be admitted into the campsite until the check-in desk re-opens; Friday 9am until 12am on Saturday.
Tickets must be bought in advance as they always sell out. There will be no tickets at the gate.
