1 August: ‘Mamakhe’ by Ulungile Magubane
This piece is about tenderness and motherhood. It is a surface level exploration into the power of giving, sustaining and nurturing life in its early stages. It challenges the discourse in our society that undervalues the work of a woman in building and maintaining generations of fatherless children.
Directed and performed by Ulungile Magubane.

15 August: ‘Spell of the Sensuous’ by Bongi Bengu and Monique Mrazek
The piece takes inspiration from all women who the artists recognise as warriors, heroines, goddesses, who hold the power of creation, as nurturers. They invite guests to step aside from the ever expanding digital matrix, a reality that isolates us from nature, filtering the mind and limiting our connection to the natural wonders. Through the art of Mandala making as a performance art piece they evoke the spell of the Earth.
Directed, performed, choreographed and designed by Bongi Bengu and Monique Mrazek with audience participation.
Time: 6pm welcome drinks | Performance 6.30pm to 7.30pm | Refreshments and snacks served thereafter
RSVP: craig@themelrosegallery.com with subject ‘RSVP | BONGI BENGU & MONIQUE MRAZEK’

A performance about the risks and vulnerabilities and possible transformative nature of the union of two people. The artists are two black queer women exploring what being in a relationship means for them. OBie Mavuso sings three songs from her highly anticipated musical body of work titled ‘Ndizakbonisa’.
Directed, performed, choreographed and designed by Adejoke Tugbiyele and Banzii Mavuso. Dialogue with audience participation.
