An intimate chamber music concert runs in Parktown

Join South African flutist Merryl Neille and pianist Eugene Joubert at Northwards House for a special classical music concert entitled, “Water’s Tale”.

The performances explore all the attributes of water as it appears in nature with a selection of lyrical works for flute and piano. On the programme is Carl Reinecke’s Sonata, Op 167, “Undine” which beautifully captures the original telling of the Little Mermaid with heartbreaking melodies and fast-moving passages. Further works include Daniel Dorff’s Sonata “Three Lakes”, deftly capturing the beauty of three picturesque lakes in the states of Pennsylvania and Maine, USA within a compelling contemporary musical framework and shorter pieces by Emma Greenhill, Ian Clarke, Tori Amos, and Philippe Gaubert completes this programme.

Following the announcement of their forthcoming new studio album, synth pioneers Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (OMD) will tour South Africa. Their new album sees the band’s most explicitly political record and the crowning achievement of their desire to be both Stockhausen and Abba. A broad, electronic, sonic masterpiece that lyrically tackles the topics of the future, it was predominantly written, recorded, and mixed by OMD frontman Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys (who has recently become a second-time father).

Tshwane North Ultra: 50km Mountain Run

This official 50km road running event offers the chance to run 50 kilometres through the northern and southern Magaliesberg mountain ranges. The ultra-marathon is an official Comrades Qualifier. Note that no temporary license can be purchased for the 50km ultra-marathon. Runners can also opt for a half marathon, while a 5-kilometre fun run provides a less challenging option. The route passes beautiful landmarks in Pretoria North and West.
