August Highlights

With winter coming to a close, there are still many exciting events and experiences on the calendar for this month. We’ve put together a list of August highlights with gourmet tastings, musical entertainment, drive-in movies and so much more.

THE CITY DRIVE-IN AT SANDTON CITY

The City Drive-In screens a selection of films, from modern classics to new releases, and everything in between. Powered by Ster-Kinekor, the drive-in cinema is hosted on the rooftop of Sandton City.

SOLO FLIGHT

Joburg Ballet presents Solo Flight, an hour-long programme featuring highlights from popular productions such as The Flames of Paris, Raymonda, Le Corsaire, Swan Lake, La Bayadère, Paquita, Giselle, and Don Quixote.

When: 12 to 15 August

ATRIUM PLANTS

Atrium Plants is a plant emporium that offers a variety of plants from award-winning breeders, delivered to homes across South Africa with a store in Kramerville.

CHEESE TOURS AND TASTINGS

Van Gaalen Kaasmakerij, a family-run farm using slow production methods to make authentic Dutch Gouda, offers cheese tours and tastings. Their cheese is matured on the farm and a wide variety of ages and herb cheeses are available.

GLAMPING EXPERIENCE AT HOME

The team at Slumber Nights creates an intimate glamping experience for close friends and family in the comfort of their own home. They do the entire indoor camping setup plus breakdown based on different themes.

ROGER BALLEN PHOTOGRAPHIC ART CENTRE

The Inside Out Centre for Photographic Art celebrates the work of prolific photographer Roger Ballen’s surrealistic depictions of platteland life.

LIVE DIGITAL MUSIC PERFORMANCE

Soda Studio is a live digital music platform for African creatives and producers to bring stories and performances to life, and broadcast them to the virtual world.

SPAR WOMEN’S VIRTUAL CHALLENGE

Women across the country are invited to run, jog or walk any distance of their choice and contribute to making sure girls in underprivileged communities get sanitary pads.
