My Favourite Broadway is Jonathan Roxmouth’s Glorious Return to the Teatro Stage

Fresh from performing abroad to sold-out seasons, multi-award-winning theatre star and South Africa’s very own Phantom of the Opera, Jonathan Roxmouth, returns home to Johannesburg for a limited season at Montecasino’s Teatro with his latest show, My Favourite Broadway, presented by Howard Audio.

Experience eight unforgettable performances over two consecutive weekends from 25 to 27 July and 1 to 3 August 2025. Here’s what you need to know.

My Favourite Broadway Jonathan Roxmouth

1. The concert marks Jonathan Roxmouth’s fab return to the Teatro stage

2025 marks a significant homecoming in the career of Jonathan Roxmouth after a successful world tour for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera. “Having mostly been overseas since 2021, I have missed the South African audience very much,” says Jonathan. “Not only their response but the way they generously welcome an artist on stage – it’s grown into a special relationship that I am looking forward to rekindling. I am beyond excited and so elated to be back performing some beautiful musical theatre material. Sharing songs from where it all began back in 2007 onwards.”

This celebrated performer will not only captivate musical theatre fans with his My Favourite Broadway concert performances; he also returns to musical theatre where he reprises the role of Billy Flynn — the slick, charismatic, and cunning lawyer — in CHICAGO – The Musical, running at Montecasino’s Teatro from 3 October to 9 November 2025.

2. My Favourite Broadway is a celebration of the best of Broadway hits

Jonathan Roxmouth is taking the spotlight in My Favourite Broadway – a celebration of his personal selection of showstopping hits from some of the world’s most beloved Broadway musicals.

From the haunting passion of The Phantom of the Opera to the revolutionary anthems of Les Misérables, the grandeur of Evita, and the romance of My Fair Lady — this is Broadway as you’ve never heard it before, interpreted by the voice that has captivated a nation.

3. Experience the newly formed Egoli Symphonic Orchestra

The newly formed 32-piece Egoli Symphonic Orchestra is one of the hottest developments in Johannesburg’s music scene. This exciting ensemble is a group of world-class musicians that Howard Audio brought together to push the boundaries of what orchestral music can be in South Africa.

Their official debut was at The Teatro in June, as they performed at Red Bull Symphonic in 2025. This annual music spectacle that transcends genres was a sold-out success that instantly positioned the Egoli Symphonic Orchestra as a powerful new force in not only orchestral but also collaborative music circles in South Africa.

4. Groundbreaking tech that turns every seat into the ‘best seat in the house’

Audiences will also be able to experience the full show in a game-changing new technology created by L-Acoustics’ L-ISA technology, which traditional audio systems simply cannot match. L-ISA (Immersive Sound Art) by L-Acoustics is an advanced audio system that creates a multidimensional sound experience, placing each instrument, voice, and effect precisely in space.

Unlike traditional stereo systems that deliver sound from just two directions, L-ISA surrounds the audience with multiple sound sources, allowing them to feel as if they are literally inside the music.

Using strategically placed speakers and sophisticated spatial audio software, L-ISA carefully positions each musical element within the Teatro theatre. This innovative approach ensures unparalleled clarity and depth, turning each seat into the ‘best seat in the house.’

5. Music’s renowned maestro, Adam Howard, is in top form

As Howard Audio’s owner and “Sound Director”, Adam offers years of talent, training and industry experience. The conductor received his classical music degree from the world-famous Guildhall School of Drama and Music in London and originally came to South Africa to take up the position of Principal Trumpet player of the New Arts Philharmonic Orchestra of Pretoria in 1997 and later as Principal Trumpet player of the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra.

Adam regularly lends his talents as musical director and conductor for William Kentridge, the Johannesburg Festival Orchestra and the Johannesburg Big Band, which plays host to some of the top session musicians in the country.

‘For me, the proudest moment is seeing people respond not just to the music, but to the message: that collaboration, when done with intention and heart, can transcend expectation,” explains Adam Howard. “We’ve had the privilege of working alongside Jonathan for more than a decade, producing his albums, promoting his concert performances locally, and sharing the stage in front of thousands. Our admiration for him is boundless.”
