Bryanston Market has been a go-to market destination in Joburg for decades
Established in 1976, Bryanston Market is Johannesburg’s longest-standing outdoor market and a beloved family-friendly destination.
Situated in the heart of Bryanston, away from the hustle and bustle of city life, the market offers a tranquil, peaceful setting with a warm, welcoming atmosphere that invites visitors to slow down, connect, and savour the experience. Located on the grounds of Michael Mount Waldorf School, it also serves as a proud fundraiser for the school.
Recognised as leaders in conscious living, the market also offers team building and group packages designed to inspire creativity and connection. These experiences include Kente weaving, a traditional Ghanaian weaving technique known for its vibrant patterns; and candle dipping, one of the oldest forms of candle-making, where participants create their own beautifully layered candles by hand.
What to experience at the market
Bryanston Market is open every Thursday and Saturday from 9am to 3pm, as well as on selected public holidays and during their regular magical Moonlight Markets.
On Thursdays, enjoy the soothing sounds of Michael Du Preez on piano in the main Tea Garden from 10am to about 2pm, and on most Saturdays, relax to the melodies of a live band creating a warm and lively atmosphere.
Moonlight Markets transform Bryanston Market from a sunlit daytime retreat into a magical nighttime destination. As daylight fades, the market comes alive under twinkling fairy lights, and a canopy of stars. Stalls glow warmly, live music drifts through the night air, and the atmosphere becomes a charming blend of festivity and relaxation.
There is also the annual Christmas Night Markets, which will be running every Tuesday evening from the second-to-last week of November (starting 18 November 2025) until 16 December 2025 from 5pm to 9pm, bringing a magical celebration under the stars.
While Bryanston Market is proudly non-alcoholic, guests are welcome to bring their own beverages during Moonlight and Christmas Markets, with no corkage fee charged.
