Culinary Table Champions Slow Food and Long Lunches in Lanseria

Tucked inside a leafy corner off Malibongwe Drive, Culinary Table offers an experience that feels part restaurant, part market and part countryside escape. The space is laid out around a thoughtful garden-to-table philosophy that champions seasonal produce, wholesome ingredients and a slower approach to dining.

Led by chef Daniela Gutstadt, the kitchen follows a menu that evolves around what is fresh and available, creating a place where every visit can feel slightly different. Go for a long breakfast, a family lunch or a weekend outing that stretches into an afternoon:

What’s on the menu at Culinary Table

The menu at Culinary Table moves away from a fixed approach and instead changes regularly according to seasonality and available produce. Rather than building dishes around trend-driven ideas, the kitchen starts with ingredients first. Much of the produce comes directly from their own gardens alongside carefully sourced local suppliers.

Expect generous breakfast plates, freshly baked breads, vibrant salads and comforting lunch dishes designed around simple ingredients done exceptionally well. Slow-fermented breads, free-range meats and organic produce all play a central role in the offering. The result is food that feels wholesome and unfussy while still maintaining a polished presentation.

The atmosphere and interiors

Part of Culinary Table’s appeal is that it doesn’t feel like Joburg at all. The restaurant leans into a relaxed social atmosphere with greenery, open surroundings and a sense that time moves slightly slower here. It is the kind of setting where breakfast easily turns into lunch and quick coffee plans unexpectedly become an all-afternoon outing.

Families, cyclists, remote workers and groups of friends all seem to find a place here. The atmosphere strikes a balance between casual and refined. There is enough polish for a special occasion while still feeling comfortable enough for everyday visits.

Visit the deli for slow pantry produce

A big part of the Culinary Table experience continues long after the meal ends. The on-site deli and market has developed a loyal following of its own and is worth setting aside time for. Shelves are stocked with carefully sourced pantry items alongside fresh produce, baked goods and speciality products. Visitors can browse everything from hormone-free meats and fresh vegetables to kombucha, spices and pantry staples. Culinary Table’s scratch bakery also prepares fresh baked goods daily.

The deli gives the space a slower, lifestyle-led feel. You can arrive for brunch and leave with bread, ingredients and a few unexpected finds for home.
