Decorex Joburg in Sandton: 10 Reasons to See This Year’s Showcase

Joburg’s hottest decor and design showcase, Decorex Joburg, is back at the Sandton Convention Centre from 24 to 27 July 2025. This event in Johannesburg is running alongside 100% Design Africa, the definitive showcase of all things contemporary design on the African continent. Joburgers will be able to take in both shows, plus daily live talks and demonstrations, and lots more.

This will be the first edition under the creative direction of Alan Hayward and Garreth van Niekerk

Alan Hayward and Garreth van Niekerk have been appointed joint Executive Creative Directors of both the Decorex Cape Town and Joburg for 2025. Their shared vision? To showcase African design as a global force. Known for blending creativity with commerce, the duo will present bold new features such as African Design pavilions, curated “Best Of” exhibitions, and virtual showcases exploring digital design.

The duo holds a strong track record here in Joburg that includes founding Always Welcome and leading Capitec handmadeAFRICA, they bring rich expertise in curation, storytelling and collaboration. Their creative leadership promises to blur boundaries between disciplines, spark cross-continental dialogue, and elevate African craftsmanship.

100% Design Africa continues to drive forward-thinking creativity

Level 2 of Sandton Convention Centre hosts the 100% Design Africa Hall, highlighting standout local furniture, lighting and design pieces. Africa’s leading international design showcase is where the continent’s finest creatives step into the global spotlight. This dynamic event brings together top names in interior design, offering a carefully curated mix of contemporary African work – from cutting-edge furniture and product design to innovation in technology and art.

At its core is a ‘phygital’ concept – a clever blend of physical exhibitions and digital storytelling. It expands the audience, enhances engagement, and provides fresh, immersive ways to connect with African design.

Get hands-on with ceramic workshops at The Create Café

Unleash your inner maker at the Create Café, an interactive ceramics studio offering hands-on workshops led by Kendall Simon from Create Lonehill. Whether you’re a beginner or a budding ceramicist, this is your chance to get creative, centre yourself and craft something that reflects your identity.

For beautifully made finds, head to the Capitec handmadeAFRICA Design MRKT on levels 4 and 5—featuring shoppable items from across the continent. Over 40 design brands from across the continent will come together in a beautifully curated space that champions luxury, heritage and innovation. Across three major events, each brand will share its unique story and deep love for African craftsmanship.

This year sees the exciting launch of the Capitec handmadeAFRICA Design MRKT – a vibrant new artisanal marketplace, created with Decorex Africa, running alongside Decorex Joburg.

See the work of Charles O Job, Decorex Joburg Designer of the Year 2025

Based in Zurich and originally from Lagos, this year’s Decorex Joburg Designer of the Year is the multi-award-winning architect and designer Charles O Job. Job will be visiting Decorex Joburg to present a talk on the Future Talks stage, covering a decade of his ideas, innovation and impact. A curated selection of his designer chairs will be on show.

Luxury bedroom decor ideas at The Bedroom Project

This new feature stand is all about bedroom schemes that have been designed to look as if they belong in a luxury hospitality destination. Expect sophisticated, dreamy boudoirs designed by Ezomdabu Concepts, Lavish Living Spaces and King Farai, all addressing the ‘lux hotel’ theme.

The Future Talks series returns to spotlight Joburg creatives

Meet and listen to all the visionary voices shaping the world of design, retail, craft and creativity. The Decorex Joburg’s Future Talks programme features CPD-accredited and all-new speakers and talks, including the likes of Stephen Klein, the CEO of Klein Concepts, a dynamic interior architecture practice; Sinegugu Ngxongo, the founder of Bambizulu, which produces high-quality eco-friendly woven products; and many more.

You’ll find the talks stage as part of 100% Design Africa, and all talks for each day are included in the price of an entry ticket for that day. The full talks schedule is available on the free-to-download Decorex app for Apple and Android.

Spanning five vibrant levels at Sandton Convention Centre, Decorex Joburg offers a carefully curated showcase of world-leading brands, breakthrough designers and exciting new product launches.

On level -2, the Renovate and Build Hall is a one-stop destination for your next project, featuring flooring, doors, wall finishes and paints. Level 0 is home to the Kitchens and Bathrooms Hall, with state-of-the-art appliances, stylish fittings, luxurious bathware and crafted countertops.

The Décor Hall on level 5 offers bold brand collaborations, exclusive launches and cutting-edge interiors—pointing to the future of design with innovation and flair.
