Shepstone Gardens

The Syrene
A quiet hideout in the heart of Rivonia, The Syrene is a family-run boutique hotel. They have an in-house art gallery, featuring a variety of local artists, as well as The Elm Tree Restaurant, open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Eyethu Lifestyle Centre
Eyethu Lifestyle Centre is located in the heart of Soweto, a cosmopolitan township that is home to around 2.5 million people and renowned for its cultural treasures. Meaning “our own”, “Eyethu” is a reference to the first black-owned cinema that opened in the area in 1969. Beyond screening films that were banned by the former apartheid government, the cinema became a hotspot for local and international entertainment, hosting early performances by now well-renowned artists such as Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse and Ladysmith Black Mambazo, as well as international performers such as Percy Sledge, Brook Benton and Timmy Thomas.
To honour this history, founder of Eyethu Lifestyle Centre, Mandla Tshabalala, has created a multipurpose space to support local creatives who “are active about developing and recognising ‘our own’”. With an in-house art gallery, wine cellar and covered outdoor deck as well as conference, kitchen, stage and sound facilities, the venue is suitable for a variety of occasions, such as private receptions, corporate events, year-end functions, seminars, fashion shows, graduation ceremonies, training sessions, baby showers and conferences.

Breezeblock
Breezeblock is a home-grown, owner-run cafe space in Joburg’s diverse and artistic neighbourhood of Brixton. Designed by talented artist Justin Brett, the venue features a vibey interior and serene courtyard with a succulent garden, fish pond and iconic tile mural. The owners welcome a broad spectrum of occasions– from private breakfasts, lunches or dinners to birthdays, mehndi and weddings, as well as corporate events, music performances and fashion shoots. Breezeblock is fully licensed and able to cater for halaal meals through an external caterer.
