Alliance Française du Cap is a cultural and language centre located in Cape Town, South Africa. Affiliated to the Paris-based Fondation des Alliances Françaises, it was founded in 1959. Its goals are to teach French, promote the French and francophone cultures as well as advocate for cultural diversity and encourage intercultural exchanges between France, French-speaking countries, and South Africa.
Alliance Française du Cap offers French courses at all levels and trains each year approximately 500 adults from all walks of life. Alliance Française is currently the only French language training centre in South Africa recognised by the French Department of Foreign Affairs.
The Alliance Française teachers are experienced and highly qualified to teach French as a Foreign Language. The quality of the curriculum, as well as the exams, is recognised worldwide.
To provide an authentic and comprehensive learning and cultural experience, a wide range of social and cultural activities are proposed to the Alliance Française students and members. They also have access to the media library where they can borrow French-language books, DVDs, and magazines and avail of Culturethèque, the portal to the largest pool of online French resources in the world.
With a gallery and a large hall of 100 m² that can accommodate up to 150 people, Alliance Française du Cap regularly hosts cultural events such as exhibitions, movie screenings, concerts.
Alliance Française du Cap is part of the Alliance Française movement launched in Paris in 1883 and is part of a network of over 800 Alliances based in 131 countries all over the world.
Alliance Française du Cap is supported by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs through the French Embassy in South Africa. It works in partnership with Institut Français d’Afrique du Sud (IFAS), and the Consulat Général de France au Cap.
Alliance Française du Cap is a non-profit South African organisation managed by a local committee of elected members.
