Arend Dieperink Museum

It is housed in an old stone building originally built as a school. The museum portrays the history of the town and its surroundings from the time of the ‘ape men’ at Makapan’s Cave, right through to the Anglo-Boer War and recent times.

The museum displays valuable artefacts, which include dinosaur fossil material, and a replica of a traditional 'bosveldhuis' in which the white South African farmers lived. Set in maintained gardens, the museum also features an outdoor exhibit area with wagons, old tractors and farm implements which give insight into the lives of the pioneers who settled and cultivated the land.

Demonstrations are available on request. Piet Potgieter’s grave also lies within the municipal office area.
