Alexander is a visual artist who uses mixed media on paper, canvas, wood or chipboard to create his art pieces, which often result in a 3D effect. His work mostly orbits social commentary on the history and politics of the country, and he not only aims to capture the effects of Apartheid, but also to air the message to rise above it.
Most of Alexander’s art reflects his architectural experience of the past 50 years - he was born, and lives, in Athlone, a typical Coloured township on the Cape Flats in Cape Town. Thus, a lot of his paintings depict life and culture as experienced here, but they also spans the wider South African political and social landscape.
Art in Athlone endeavours to make art accessible to locals by exhibiting its art and books in local libraries.
