Event information
BAZ-ART offers self-guided tours ranging from 3 to 25 kilometres, where participants are encouraged to bring or hire a bike or skateboard, or travel on foot. The BAZ-ART Organisation believes that street art has the power to rebuild communities and their people. Its mission is to stop the exodus of South African artists leaving the country for better art opportunities by making South Africa “the art place to be”.
Many may know Salt River as the hot spot for iconic South African street art, however, this is mostly owing to the International Public Art Festival hosted by BAZ-ART each year. At the festival artists all over the world come to Salt River to reinvent the faces of 123 buildings in the area.
The festival isn’t the only place art lovers can experience the street art created. One of the experiences offered by the BAZ-ART organisation is the Salt River street art tour. The tour aims to give visitors a deep appreciation of street art bytaking them through the process and interpretation of the works. Street Art expert guides discuss the culture and history that informs each artwork on display. Guests on the tours can expect to view the 120 paintings created in previous Public Art Festivals while discovering the Salt River community and unique culture.
Aside from the festival and their Street Art tours, BAZ-ART provides services such as art commissions as well as art education, where they offer art classes and graffiti workshops.
