Caledon Spa

Event information

Caledon is home to the Western Cape’s famous Natural Warm Mineral Baths. These natural springs produce over a million litres of water daily and have an average temperature at the source of 65 degrees Celsius.

The distinctive brown colour of the water is due to the rich iron content, known as chalybeate. The oily layers found on the surface of the pools are due to the high mineral content of the spring waters and vary in density from time to time depending on weather conditions.

The warm waters are known to be very beneficial for the body and the mind. It exfoliates and moisturises the skin, boosts blood circulation, reduces stress, promotes sleep, and is a natural pain reliever.

Day-visitors have a choice of three Khoi ponds (42 to 44 degrees, 40 to 42 degrees, 38 to 40 degrees), an outdoor jacuzzi for 15 people (36 to 38 degrees), a flotation pool (34 to 36 degrees), a frigidarium pool to cool off in, and a historic Victorian Bath of 36 to 38 degrees.

The mineral pools are completely drained and filled every week on a Monday, except the historical Victorian Bath is drained and cleaned every Friday.

There is also a Rain Wellness Spa on-site.
