Cape Town Opera with AM Productions presents the South African premiere of Pauline Viardot's 1904 opera, Cendrillon. The chamber opera, based on Charles Perrault's fairytale Cinderella, tells the tale of the lovely but mistreated Marie (Cinderella) who slaves away in her father's household, subservient to his demands and those of her sisters. With the help of her Fairy Godmother, she attends the Prince's ball where they meet and fall in love, and Marie is subsequently saved from her wretched family to live happily ever after.
One of the best-known fairytales, Cinderella is brought to life in this enchanting production, with all the glamour and glitter that opera has to offer. The creative team includes Fred Abrahamse & Marcel Meyer, with a cast of Cape Town Opera Soloists, and Judith Neilson Young Artists.
