The 2026 season at the Baxter Studio kicks off with Constellations, directed by acclaimed industry veteran and choreographer Jay Pather, whose previous credits include The Firebird, Bridling and Hold Still.
The play follows a quantum physicist named Marianne and a beekeeper named Roland who meet at a barbecue. What follows is not a straightforward love story but a kaleidoscopic exploration of every possible version of their relationship, replaying the same moments with different outcomes to ask what might happen if every version of our lives existed simultaneously. Using the language of quantum physics and multiverse theory, the play examines how the smallest choices, a single conversation, a moment of hesitation, can alter the entire course of a life and a love.
Marianne is played by Mwenya Kabwe, an award-winning Zambian-born performer known for her roles in Doubt and mAnJE! MaNje. Mark Elderkin plays Roland, whose stage credits include A Midsummer Night's Dream and Amadeus.
Parking is available at the Baxter Theatre. The nearest MyCiti Bus stop is Rondebosch Station on the T01 trunk route, approximately 500m from the venue.
