Dance Spectrum

The National School of the Arts (NSA) presents their highly anticipated annual dance showcase production 'Dance Spectrum - The Origination'.

With funding from the National Arts Council through the PESP6 grant, the descriptive title for the 2026 iteration of Dance Spectrum is 'Origi-Nation' playing on the meaning of both origination and nation: celebrating South Africa as a nation of originators and creative powerhouses.

The 2026 programme features a spectrum of dance including neo-classical ballet, contemporary, Spanish and African. The NSA is proud to have commissioned esteemed choreographers Oscar Buthelezi, Tshepo Zasekhaya (NSA alum), and David Gouldie to create new work for this season.

They join NSA dance department’s HOD Heather Dreyer for her “Truth of the Land” Neo-Classical work, which examines the push-and-pull dynamics in the relationships between men and women realised in a series of duets from tender to confrontational, Laura Cameron for her hallmark contemporary work and Gilian Bonegio for Spanish. The latter is accompanied by Christiaan Hattingh on guitar.
