The Emoyeni Retreat Centre is located on the northern slopes of the Magaliesberg Mountains, bordering on the Cradle of Mankind, about 100 km northwest of Johannesburg. Emoyeni is the isiZulu word for “Place of Spirit”.
The centre’s philosophy and culture is roughly based on Buddhist principles and meditation techniqunon-harming towards all living beings.
Anyone with a sincere interest in cultivating wisdom and compassion as a way of life is welcome. The aim is to provide a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere conducive to the practice of meditation.
Emoyeni Retreat Centre emphasizes functionality over luxury with basic accommodation and facilities. There are no swimming pools, games, television or Wi-Fi. This is to encourage introspection and enquiry. Regular retreats are on offer such as the Yoga res focussing on the practice of mindfulness and an attitude of etreat and the Zen Pen – a writing, being and meditation retreat. There are also work retreats where work can be done in return for accommodation. Individual or self-retreats can be done according to personal needs.
The accommodation takes up to 18 guests and four residents. Meditation rooms seat about 25 people. Three lacto-vegetarian meals are provided daily, and linen is also supplied.
Emoyeni is available for day visits, weekends or longer stays. Day visitors are encouraged to call and make arrangements before coming.
