False Bay Nature Reserve

The False Bay Nature Reserve is situated between False Bay and Table Bay, 23 kilometers from Cape Town’s city center. It consists of about 50% permanent wetland and 49% terrestrial vegetation. It contains two lakes, Rondevlei, which is a protected area reserve, and Zeekoevlei which is a residential area and popular yachting, canoeing, and windsurfing venue. Both lakes support large populations of waterbirds including pelicans and flamingoes.

The reserve is home to 241 bird species and 256 species of indigenous plants including two endemic plant species currently listed as extinct in the wild, namely Erica turgida and Erica verticillata.
