Fire poi training is a dynamic way to build strength and coordination while sharpening mental focus and freeing up creative energy.
Flow arts classes in Observatory introduce poi as both a movement practice and a creative skill, with training available from first timers through to advanced spinners. Sessions take place at the Obs Community Centre, where instructors focus on building solid technique while keeping classes relaxed, collaborative and supportive. Each group works with soft practice poi so students can experiment safely as they learn to control arcs, timing and direction.
Beginner courses run as a structured five week journey that develops core fundamentals step by step. Warm ups flow into movement drills and trick breakdowns, covering patterns such as weaves, butterflies, reels, corkscrews and buzzsaws so that participants leave with a confident base in essential poi vocabulary. Intermediate sessions are designed to bridge the gap to more complex work, spending time on turning cleanly between directions, holding stable planes and adjusting tether length mid flow. Advanced classes then dive deeper into ideas like stalls, flowers and tracers, exploring how to move the body inside and around the spinning circles.
Throughout all levels, class sizes and formats allow instructors to check in with individual students, offer variations and suggest next steps for home practice. Packages and single class options keep the training flexible.
