Kai Scott, the 19-year-old singer-songwriter known for his evocative lyricism and intricate fingerpicking, has swiftly carved out a space for himself among the city’s folk revivalists. This weekend, Scott is set to take the stage at The Obscene Parrot for a full set of 19 original songs, marking another milestone in his rapidly evolving career.
Scott first emerged on Cape Town’s live circuit in late 2024, captivating open mic audiences with his poetic storytelling and delicate yet resonant melodies. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, and Syd Barrett—along with more unconventional influences such as Hailu Mergia and John Fahey—Scott’s sound blends traditional folk with a contemporary edge. Various performances in 2025 have further cemented his status as one to watch.
Attendees can expect an intimate yet commanding set, featuring a mix of older compositions and brand-new material. Among the highlights will be a live rendition of his latest release, River That Washes Me Blind.
