The Magnet Theatre is an independent physical theatre company in Observatory, dedicated to producing topical and innovative work. It was established in 1987 by Mark Fleishman and Jennie Reznek who are the company’s artistic directors. The theatre is actively engaged in youth development to help transfer theatre-making and physical theatre skills to marginalized youth in Cape Town and Cederberg communities.
The work that the theatre produces is driven by theatrical research and the ambition to energise audiences through thought-provoking and refined content.
Some of its productions include G7 Okwe-Bokhwe that honours the Gugulethu 7 and Scoop: Kitchen Play For Moms and Babes - the first South African baby play for mothers and babies between the ages of two weeks to 12 months. The latter was created with the input of the Replay Theatre Company in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
