Event information
Angora goats constitute the main type of farming in the Jansenville district, and here one can learn all about the history of mohair, and even watch the entire process of wool being taken from a goat and transformed into fabric or garments.
The Mohair Experience Museum was officially opened in 2009, at the same time as the International Mohair Summit which is now held in Graaff Reinet. It is located at the Jansenville Museum (Sid Fourie House).
Mohair is referred to as the ‘noble fibre’, or ‘diamond fibre’, and the economy of the town and district largely depends on its production. One can purchase finished mohair products from various suppliers in a shop in the same building.
