In a unique and special way, the National Children's Theatre brings magic and life to family favourite stories. In addition to interactive musicals and plays, NCT also offers theatre workshops for children aged 7-17. Their life-skills programs and educational theatre work with young adults.
NCT began as the non-profit Johannesburg Youth Theatre Trust. Since 1990, Executive Director, Joyce Levinsohn, had transformed it into NCT. The theatre is situated on all major bus and taxi routes. As a result, it provides all of Gauteng's children, irrespective of socio-economic circumstances, with an easily accessible theatre environment.
NCT stage adaptions include a vast variety of children's classics and contemporary plays. Besides providing entertainment for children, they teach vital interactive life skills through theatre-in-education programmes and theatre workshops. The stories they tell include loved characters, beautiful and creative settings and outstanding costumes that are magical to South African children and parents alike.
NCT has won many awards. Their awards are not only bringing professional educational theatre to children, performing at schools, community centres, theatres, in cities and rural areas across all provinces but at the same time employing young actors and technicians, giving them their first opportunity for professional work.
Previously successful productions include The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Heidi and The Secret Garden.
