Acclaimed Korean tenor Kyungho Kim performs a programme including six songs by Francesco Paolo Tosti, some Korean, American and British art songs as well as opera and operetta arias. This recital is also a fundraising concert for Opera UCT and all proceeds from ticket sales go directly to supporting future concerts and productions.
Kim is a graduate of the National University of Arts in Seoul and, from 2011 to 2013, he was a member of the International Opera Studio of the Staatsoper in Berlin. He made his debut at the National Theatre in 2018 as Romeo (Roméo et Juliette), and the following season he returned as Alfredo (La traviata) and Macduff (Macbeth). He regularly performs at the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava, Oper Leipzig and in 2016, Kim made his debut at the Bregenzer Festspiele. He has garnered a number of prizes, including at the Bellini International Vocal Competition.
Kim is accompanied on the piano by Director of Opera UCT, Jeremy Silver. A British conductor, pianist and vocal coach, Silver, has worked at all the major opera companies of the UK, as well as in France, Holland, Malaysia, Japan and the USA. He has also worked extensively in South Africa, in concert with all the country’s major symphony orchestras, as well as with Cape Town Opera and Gauteng Opera. As principal conductor of Opera Africa (2004-2007), he conducted productions of I Capuleti e i Montecchi, La traviata and Rigoletto at the State Theatre, Pretoria, as well the South African opera Princess Magogo at Het Muziektheater, Amsterdam.
