Pilani Bubu presents KINFOLK

Singer-songwriter, Pilani Bubu and some guest artists present an evening of music and poetry.

Bubu has received critical acclaim with here SAMA award-winning compilation album 'Folklore Chapter 1', a suite of nostalgic African folk tales. She followed this up with ‘Folklore Chapter 2: Ekuseni', where she delved even deeper into ancient wisdom, sharing a personal story of her ancestors, their rituals, her rites, their gifts, her inheritances, and the relationship there between.

Her latest offering 'Nay’Indaba', is a sonic odyssey reflecting on South Africa’s history and contemplating 30 years of Freedom through the prism of strong women. Over the course of the album's eight tracks, it explores in depth South Africa's complex history and social ills, whilst sharing a positive story of the ongoing struggle against inequality, youth unemployment and poverty.

The artist is set to perform works from her extensive discography with the help of local talents, Keenan Ahrends (guitar), Dalisu Ndlazi (bass), Simphiwe Tshabalala (drums), Robin Fassie (trumpet), and Phumlani Mtiti (alto saxophone). The event opens with a poetry installation by Xabiso Vili and a set by DJ Womlambo.
