Rhoda Henning’s Pottery studio is hidden in the tranquil suburb of Brooklyn in Pretoria. Guests can view the gallery of pottery and paintings created by Rhoda for sale. Alternatively, they can take fun interactive lessons led by Rhoda, who has 42 years of experience and has won several prestigious awards for her design, wheelwork, decorations and tableware at national exhibitions. Rhoda teaches pottery, sculpture and painting on pottery in her studio classes.
Rhoda invites experienced potters and beginners to relax, unwind and most importantly have fun in her studio classes. Pottery classes are held on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, afternoons, and evenings and cover techniques such as handwork, moulds, sculpture, wheelwork and decoration. Classes last 3 hours, and a generous amount of clay and glaze is included, as well as the firing of the items created. Participants only need to bring themselves.
Sculpture and Painting on Ceramic classes are available during the same days. Sculpture classes teach solid forms, hollowed-out solid forms, building with support, paper filling, joining hollowed forms, slabs, coils and other techniques. Different pottery painting styles and techniques are taught in the painting classes.
Group classes can also be booked from Mondays to Saturdays for birthdays, kitchen parties or general gatherings.
