Rhumbelow Theatre

The Rhumbelow theatre is a community-run theatre dedicated to keeping the cabaret scene alive in Durban. It mainly hosts live music and cabaret shows at affordable ticket prices.

Its history is deeply rooted in community development. The theatre officially opened in June 2001, but the Rhumbelow Shellhole hall it stands on has been used to entertain the Durban community for over 50 years. The hall was built by the service men and women of the 1st and 2nd World War living in the Umbilo area. It provided a lot of culture for its locals when it was opened in September 1929. With the tag line, “Performing for you”, the Rhumbelow theatre continues that tradition.

It has a small stage, an outdoor area for picnics and braais as well as two pianos.
