Rootspring House

Originally built for an opera singer, the venue offers an up-close, personalised experience. Seating is on plastic chairs and large stuffed cushions and patrons often arrive early to secure a spot.

The kind of instrumentation you’re likely to hear here ranges from tabla, to didgeridoo, acoustic guitar and loop pedal. One can also get rare sightings of indigenous musicians playing amadinda (log xylophone), mbira, and bows such as the uhadi and mhrubhe.

In an attempt to preserve South Africa’s national heritage, Rootspring also supports musicians with album production. These are available to purchase on site.

Pre-book a dinner wrap to enjoy during interval. Vegetarians are catered for. Glasses are provided, and you are requested to bring your own drinks.
