Sharpeville Human Rights Precinct

The Sharpeville Memorial and Exhibition Centre, also known as the Sharpeville Human Rights Precinct, commemorates the Sharpville Massacre which took place on 21 March 1960.

On that day, 69 peaceful protesters were killed and 180 injured by police who opened fire unnecessarily. The memorial is one of six Heritage sites related to the Massacre and its eventual role in the downfall of apartheid.

Township tours are also offered by the nearby Vaal Teknorama Museum (Vaaltek), located in Vereeniging. Booking is required.
