The Dunkelder is a cosy theatre in a manor house near Rosebank in Johannesburg. Opened in 2019, the theatre accommodates just 60 to 70 people providing an intimate cultural experience for audiences, and a chance for new and established artists to showcase their craft.
The theatre has become synonymous with hosting music shows, theatre performances and especially comedy productions. The improv comedy troupe Jittery Citizens have made regular turns at the Dunkelder, as well as comedy personalities such as Nic Rabinowitz.
The theatre is bilingual and delivers content in English and Afrikaans.
