From Conrad Hicks’ forge in Cape Town, the Tool Room produces solid steel cookware made for kitchen or campfire. This is sustainable design crafted to last a lifetime - guided by touch, refined by sight. The result is something functional, beautiful and made to be felt, used and passed down.
Each pan is individually hand-forged from solid steel and heat-treated with beeswax to create a natural non-stick surface. All pans feature hand-textured handles designed for comfortable grip and can be used on stovetops, campfires, or in ovens at high temperatures. The forge also produces bamboo pan brushes and offers combination bundles.
The Tool Room philosophy centres on the concept that beautiful tools inspire beautiful creations. Hicks developed this line of cookware to bring functional art into domestic spaces, believing that our earliest tools were shaped by judgements of function that became instinctive definitions of beauty. Each piece varies slightly in texture and finish as part of the handmade process.
Products are available for purchase online with worldwide shipping, and the forge can be visited by appointment at The Bijou. Street parking is available along Lower Main Road.
