Event information
One of the best preserved meteorite impact craters, the Tswaing Crater is 1.4 kilometres in diameter and 200 metres deep and is said to have hit the earth some 220 000 years ago.
Visitors are encouraged to take the 7.2km Tswaing Crater Trail, one of three trails that lead to and from the crater rim, and also check out the Tswaing Crater Museum which is one of only four crater museums in the world. Major attractions, besides the crater itself, are an extensive wetland system, the large variety of plant species of the Sourish-Mixed Bushveld, as well as 240 species of birds.
