UManyano Lwe Jazz (ULJ) is an independent cultural institution, festival platform and creative gathering rooted in a shared love of music, community, and cultural exchange.
Each December, ULJ transforms Johannesburg into a meeting point for artists and audiences seeking something deeper than just a concert experience, yet more intimate than a mass-market festival. Over two carefully curated days, world-class music, conversation, food, art and community come together to create an experience that is both regionally contextual and globally relevant.
Across multiple stages and experiences, audiences encounter some of the most exciting artists working across contemporary African jazz, alternative music, diasporic sound, soul and folk traditions, and spiritual improvisation.
From emerging voices to globally celebrated artists, every edition brings together musicians who are pushing culture forward while remaining deeply rooted in tradition and live performance.
This year marks the festival's fifth and most ambitious edition yet, with confirmed live acts and DJs including international stars aja monet and Theo Parrish, along with South African talents Buhlendabalo, The SN Project, Zoë Modiga, Vuma Levin, Carlo Mombelli's Chapter 7, Thesis ZA, Robin Fassie, Sun Quintet, Jazz Cats SA, Sun Xa Experiment, Norman Chauke and so many more.
