Its architecture and central shrine are reminiscent of shrines found throughout South India. The installation of the 8 metre-high statue of the Hindu deity Lord Shiva at the entrance is significant, as it marks the arrival of Indians in South Africa in 1860.
The temple provides for all forms of traditional Hinduism.
