Year after year, Ladles of Love organises a space for companies, schools, families, students and communities to gather and participate in practical projects to make their 67 minutes count.
On Wednesday, 22 July 2026, those looking to lend a helping hand will meet at the Johannesburg Expo Centre and take on their choice of four projects that will go in support of the nutrition and education of 20 000 preschool children in impoverished communities across the country.

Pick your project from four activation zones
Ladles of Love have everything prepared. Volunteers’ only responsibility is to show up to lend a hand at one of four activation zones that must be chosen when booking tickets. These activation zones include the following:
Make Zone
In the Make Zone, volunteers participate in what is known as the Sarmiethon, being challenged to make as many sandwiches as possible within 67 minutes, each of which will be served to vulnerable people in need. Participants receive hair nets and gloves to ensure safety from contamination.
Volunteers are also given the option to pack nutrition boxes filled with pantry items selected from a preschool grocery list developed with nutritional needs in mind.
Create Zone
The Create Zone is where volunteers tap into their inner child, creating preschool posters, flashcards and activity workbooks to support early childhood learning for those who don’t have access to such support.
Craft Zone
In this zone, volunteers get creative, putting together teaching aids such as bean bags, puppets and veggie trucks, to bring lessons on food, colour, movement and language to life.
Grow Zone
The final zone is the Grow Zone, where volunteers build grow boxes with vegetable and herb seeds which go in support of urban farmers who supply fresh produce to preschools.

How it works
Once volunteers have picked their activation zone, they will have to book one of four 90-minute slots starting at 9am, 11am, 1pm and 3pm.
Corporate teams looking to use the experience as meaningful team building receive meal packages, fast-track entry, reserved seating, branding opportunities and a motivational talk by Danny Diliberto, the founder and CEO of Ladles of Love. Group ticket purchases of 50 tickets or more can be invoiced and paid for via EFT. Kindly email [email protected].
To ensure anyone can participate, there is also an option to ‘Create Your Own’ event anytime from 17 to 31 July 2026 by ordering Create Your Own kits for delivery anywhere in South Africa.
